Bernabei’s brilliant in Brazil, Celtic set for surprise transfer fee recoup

Celtic might receive an unexpected transfer bonus in January, as loan-Celtic Alexandro Bernabei’s impressive performance in Brazil is expected to secure a permanent transfer to Internacional.

Brendan Rodgers is unlikely to keep the Argentinian left-back at Celtic, and the club may seek to recuperate the £3.75 million paid to Lanus in 2022.

Internacional’s president, Alessandro Barcellos, wants to work out a deal with Celtic for the 24-year-old, acknowledging that Barnabei’s value is skyrocketing owing to his great run at his club after taking some time to adapt in.

In an interview with Radio Gaucha, Barcellos stated that Bernabei is currently on loan from Celtic until the end of the year. We still need to deal with the club that holds his rights to buy him or prolong his loan, whatever the approach may be.

“We’ve already begun discussions with the player’s agent, who has expressed an interest in staying, which is critical in the process. We hope to have a positive outcome, but this will not happen until the end of the year.

“We plan to maintain Bernabei as his worth improves with each game. He is a player who has earned, conquered, and maintained his position, and he is now a key contributor to our team.”

With Tierney valued at £10 million, the unexpected recoupment on the Bernabei fee could cover more than a third of the cost of a KT transfer.
