Toni Kroos brands Celtic ‘second-class’ in praise U-turn after Borussia Dortmund woes

Former Real Madrid icon Toni Kroos is one of the collection of footballing greats to have sampled Celtic Park on a Champions League night.

The night that Scotland’s best kept Carlo Ancelotti’s team close for extended periods of time was 2022, and the German icon had a brilliant performance in midfield during Celtic’s 3-0 loss to Real Madrid.

Toni Kroos talked about his “unbelievable” experience at Celtic Park after the game, saying that in his entire career, he had never heard anything like the scream of the Hoops fanbase.

“I was asked several times which (away) stadium is my favourite,” he said. I can also tell you that there is a new

number one! Park Celtic. It has truly been insane! When we emerged, the mood was positive.

“As soon as the Champions League anthem began, I thought the stadium would collapse.” Amazing, I had never had

that kind of experience.”

It’s safe to say that Kroos has softened his feelings towards Celtic in the wake of the Bhoys’ most recent Champions

League loss to Borussia Dortmund, even though the team won hearts and minds on a memorable evening.

Toni Kroos makes Celtic U-turn amid recent comments

Speaking on Einfach mal Luppen, Kroos alluded to Celtic as “second-class” opponents when contrasting Dortmund’s

patchy Champions League play with their inconsistent Bundesliga play.

“I think last week was the classic example of a Borussia Dortmund week,” he said in his explanation. They defeated a

lower-tier opponent 7-1 in the Champions League, despite the fact that it must be acknowledged.

And after that, they played a Bundesliga match over the weekend, lost, and played a characteristically subpar game. Ultimately, Dortmund’s performance in the Bundesliga, not in Europe, will determine their fate. It is unlikely that

they will reach the Champions League Final each year.

“They must now exhibit some consistency within the league. We can probably agree that Dortmund ought to be performing better in the league for a number of years now.

Celtic fans will take issue with Kroos comments

With six games remaining, Celtic still has a genuine opportunity to advance from the league phase, despite the

Dortmund loss serving as a wake-up call for the team.

The Hoops crushed Slovan Bratislava in their Champions League debut on the first day of play. Under Brendan

Rodgers, there’s still a lot to battle for as they attempt to create history.

Celtic’s next two Champions League games against RB Leipzig and Atalanta, as can be seen above, might have a

significant impact on how their first experience under the new system plays out.

As the defending Scottish Premiership winners attempt to take advantage of the expanded tournament by extending

their stay well into next year, perhaps history can be created.
