Carlos Corberan has given an update on Daryl Dike’s recuperation from injury at West Brom.

The attacker has been out of action for the past eight months after rupturing his Achilles, his fourth serious injury since joining the club.

According to the Daily Mail, this January marks three years since his £7 million transfer to the Championship side.

During his tenure with the Midlands team, he has only made 29 league games and scored seven goals (all figures from Fbref).

The 24-year-old’s last outing for the club was a 2-2 draw against Ipswich Town in February.

Corberan has disclosed that Dike has resumed training with the U21 squad as he continues his recuperation.

The West Brom boss has stated that the player is on an individual program and will need to play a few games with the U21 team before returning to the senior squad.

“He is now training with a team, but with the under 21s, so his first step to come back…we have been specific,” said Corberan, according to Express & Star.

“Individual physical work, then technical and tactical, but when it came to collective training drills, the medical team decided to start with the under-21s.

“Then he did analytical exercises with us, but not in game settings.

“They’ll come during the international break.

“Before joining us, he will play with the under-21s for one or two games.

“That is the strategy we have in mind.

“He currently conducts game situation exercises with the under-21s, analytical drills with the first team, and technical and tactical drills individually.

“During the international break, before playing for the under-21s, he must go through collective training with the first team.

“Before he can play with the first team, he must do at least one game with the B team.”

West Brom’s league position

Dike aims to return from injury and contribute to West Brom’s promotion push this season.

Corberan’s squad is presently fourth in the Championship league, just two points behind leaders Sunderland after nine games.

Last season, the Baggies qualified for the play-offs, but were defeated in the semi-finals by Southampton.

West Brom will meet Oxford United on October 19.

Dike’s return to fitness will be a significant boost for West Brom assuming he stays fit.

During his time at West Brom, Dike hasn’t got the opportunity to demonstrate his full potential.

It’s been a terrible period for him, and the club has been really supportive throughout his different injuries.

They will all be hoping that this is the start of a new chapter for him at the Hawthorns, and his return may be a significant boost to their promotion prospects.

Josh Maja is in excellent form to begin the season, and having someone of Dike’s caliber as competition might motivate him to play even better, or the two could establish an interesting combination of their own.
