Ethan Laird of Birmingham City, who was the most recent player to sign a new contract at St. Andrew’s, expressed his happiness about it.

As they prepared for a new chapter, Birmingham City was quite busy during the summer transfer window, and they have continued to be active on the contract front ever since.

The Blues have huge plans for the future, and even with the influx of new players ahead of the 2024–2025 season, many of their current players can still play important roles in their thrilling adventure. One of them is Ethan Laird, a player who, in spite of some injury issues, has intriguing potential. He left Manchester United this summer on a permanent deal after on loans to Swansea City, QPR, and Bournemouth.

It is now known that he has signed a new contract with Birmingham City, after having first signed a term that would last until 2026. He remains with the company until 2028 under the new agreements.

In response to the new agreement, Laird expressed his happiness at signing a long-term contract with the Blues given their lofty future goals. He declared:

It has been revealed that St. Andrew’s dynamic striker Keshi Anderson and exceptional midfield player Paik Seung-ho have inked new contracts that guarantee them spots in the team’s ambitious plans and their futures.

It would not be a surprise if more are to follow either. The Blues are getting things in place for the long-term as they look to rise back to the Championship and potentially beyond in the years to come.

On the road back to fitness

Laird has been sidelined by an ankle injury of late but this new deal is a big show of faith in his abilities and potential by Birmingham City despite some of the problems he has encountered.

He will be battling with Taylor Gardner-Hickman and Alfons Sampsted for a place in Chris Davies’ starting XI once he’s available for selection again.

At his best, you can’t help but feel he will be a shoe-in for the starting berth. However, it will be down to Laird to show that on a consistent basis with two players capable of taking that spot in the side for themselves.
