After losing his competitive edge in his last few months at Birmingham City, Scott Hogan has needed some time to get back into the football game.

The striker spent the summer lounging on his sofa before joining League Two team MK Dons. It’s possible that Hogan was nursing his wounds after the Blues released him.

Last season, he saw a lot of those appearances coming off the bench as three managers essentially benched him. Tony Mowbray showed a little more interest in Hogan but soon abandoned it in favor of others, Wayne Rooney showed no interest in him, and Gary Rowett turned to him six times after the 79th minute.

Hogan, who is 32 years old, joined MK Dons in the hopes of finding football again. He wants his kid to witness him grinning once more on a football field.

Hogan said, “It had to be something that I felt was going to give me the hunger back.” It appears thrilling. I still have a lot of football years left, so this satisfied a lot of my needs.

“Hopefully, I can resume my regular playing, which I haven’t done in about 18 months. The most important thing is that my kid, who hasn’t watched me play much, comes down. It was really important to her that she could witness her dad having fun and enjoying football. What’s most intriguing about it is that it’s made me want to play again.

After a turn around in their fortunes following the acquisition of manager Scott Lindsey from League One’s Crawley Town, MK Dons are currently 14th in League Two. As long as they are still in the running for the Bristol Street Motors Trophy, Hogan and Blues’ reunion is still possible.

Hogan might need some time to establish himself in the MK Dons lineup, though, following a summer without a preseason.

“It all depends on sports science; they get in the way a lot,” stated Hogan. I must exercise caution as I have been sitting on my own couch for an extended period of time.
