“A fantastic move” – Pundit backs Norwich City to finalise transfer for Bright Osayi-Samuel

If Norwich City were able to get Bright Osayi-Samuel from Fenerbahçe, Carlton Palmer thinks it would be a wise move.

With Johannes Hoff Thorup in charge, the Canaries are having a successful season thus far as they aim to return to the Premier League.

This comes after a particularly hectic window in which Norwich had to deal with a number of high-profile departures, including the exits of Jon Rowe, Adam Idah, and Gabriel Sara. Fans will be hoping that the recruitment team will have funds available in the New Year to strengthen even more, as those sales did finance some new hires.

Championship Table – As Of October 10, 2024

Norwich City keen on Bright Osayi-Samuel

Important club officials might already be keeping an eye on the January transfer window, as rumours from Turkey said they were vying with Lens for Osayi-Samuel.

The English football community is familiar with the Nigerian international from his time at QPR, but he has remade himself as a full-back for the Istanbul powerhouse.

Osayi-Samuel’s circumstances have somewhat altered as a result of José Mourinho’s hiring, since he is no longer a given to start and has seen his playing time limited due to injury.

Carlton Palmer feels Bright Osayi-Samuel would improve Norwich City

“I think it would be a great move for Norwich if they can get him back.” They have been a consistent threat at the top of the league and he has won the cup since moving to Turkey.

“His skill and ability to do two positions could be advantageous for Throup, but it would depend on the type of money they would have to pay. That would be a fantastic opportunity, though, as Norwich is currently in seventh place in the Championship.

“They need to examine this area, and adding players with his calibre and experience would be beneficial, as Norwich’s options are limited to their first 11 players.”

Norwich City will need quality to help promotion push

Between now until January, there is still a lot of football to be played, but Norwich are currently in a strong position with all of the players supporting the new manager following a challenging beginning.

The squad plays with a distinct style, is formidable going forward, and currently has two of the best players in the Championship in Josh Sargent and, more especially, Borja Sainz.

Thus, the Canaries should anticipate competing for a play-off spot at least this year, but the January window may prove to be crucial.

Palmer is right when he says that Norwich doesn’t have the same depth as some of their competitors, thus acquiring two or three good players during this season could help them stay competitive.

In that regard, Osayi-Samuel most definitely meets the criteria, and if they could get him into the club before the window closes, that would be a huge coup.
