Ipswich Town will face Manchester United in their first Premier League game under new manager Ruben Amorim this weekend, following their season-opening victory.

This will be Kieran McKenna’s first encounter versus United since taking over as Ipswich manager in 2021. He previously served as a first-team coach at Old Trafford.

McKenna referred to the forthcoming match as “the biggest game in world football anywhere this weekend” during a Fans’ Forum.

“The biggest game in the world, in the biggest sport in the world, and it’s at Portman Road,” he went on:”It’s in Ipswich and there’s nothing that could make me more proud than that, really.”

McKenna stated that, while the headlines will undoubtedly centre on Anorim, who was named Erik ten Hag’s replacement earlier this month, he believes the game is more a credit to Ipswich’s recent efforts.

The Tractor Boys were in League One when McKenna took over, but back-to-back promotions have propelled them back to the Premier League for the first time in 20 years.

“For me, it’s more about Ipswich Town and our journey and the fact that we’re back in the Premier League after so many years.”

Even if Ipswich can wreck Anorim’s welcoming party, they will still have a lot of work to do if they want to avoid relegation this season. McKenna’s side is presently 17th in the premier tier, barely four points below the bottom of the standings after 11 games.

To assure their survival, the Tractor Boys may aim to bring in reinforcements after the New Year, one of which being Vasco da Gama winger Rayan Vitor.

According to GiveMeSport journalist Ben Jacobs, Ipswich, Brighton, and Southampton have made contact regarding a January transfer for the Brazilian teenager, who has been excelling in his native nation.

Last month, West Ham was connected, and Jacobs suggests a potential £15 million January transfer, but it’s unknown which team.

Who is Rayan Vitor?

Rayan, 18, joined Vasco de Gama when he was just six years old. FC Barcelona was impressed by his performance with the club’s U-17s in 2022, when he scored 29 goals in 34 games, as reported by SPORT.

Since making his professional debut last year, he has made 22 appearances for Vasco in Brazil’s Serie A, and he has also represented Brazil’s Under-20 team.

Rayan, a left-footed right-winger who can play on both flanks and through the middle, has received high praise for his exploits for Vasco, particularly from South American football expert Nathan Joyes, who compared him to Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi.
