Everton are now edging ever closer to life after Farhad Moshiri with The Friedkin Group set to take the keys to Goodison Park.
It has not been the start to the season which Sean Dyche would have hoped for with Everton sitting narrowly above the relegation zone.
However, there are more promising times potentially ahead for the Toffees with The Friedkin Group close to completing their Everton takeover.
But it has not always been The Friedkin Group who have been the lead party in the race to land the Merseyside club.
John Textor failed in buying Everton after his period of exclusivity earlier in the summer came to a conclusion.
John Textor shocked by Everton takeover development
Speaking to Argentine outlet Ole, Textor has now admitted he was only 24 hours away from purchasing Everton.
“In England, we thought we were very close to Everton. I think I’ll probably say it for the first time publicly now,” said Textor.
“We didn’t realise that we were 24 hours away, our documents were ready, and we were ready to send the money and they were still going through a bidding process with another buyer.”
“Sometimes you can achieve a lot with a handshake. Other times you need more than a handshake. And that was a situation where we lost because we were too confident in the outcome.”
The Friedkin Group have learned from Textor’s mistakes in speaking overly public about the potential changes set to come at Everton.
Yet Textor continues to speak about his failed efforts in landing the Toffees.
John Textor annoyed Farhad Moshiri with Everton interview
Textor annoyed Moshiri at Everton during takeover negotiations by giving a public interview with Sky Sports about the process.
This was all before Textor had even received any green lights over a potential takeover which The Friedkin Group have now received FA approval.
However, there is a feeling that Everton fans may have been played by The Friedkin Group already.
Clearly, they have taken a much more reserved approach to their takeover bid, but they have provided one message to the Everton fans to raise some excitement.
One thing which does look almost certain is there will be new ownership sooner rather than later on Merseyside.
