The Dallas Cowboys Release Rashaan Evans Following Brutal Loss To The Miami Dolphins

A day before his release from the Dallas Cowboys, linebacker Rashaan Evans was arrested Tuesday by Frisco police for possession of marijuana.

The Cowboys waived Evans on Wednesday to make room for offensive tackle Matt Waletzko, who was activated off IR after dealing with a shoulder injury suffered in training camp.

Evans played in nine games for the Cowboys and was credited with nine tackles.

The 2018 first-round pick joined the team in October on the practice squad.

How Does This Impact Dallas Moving Forward?

Evans joined the Cowboys practice squad in October. This season, he participated in nine games and recorded nine tackles as a helper for a club that is primarily dependent on rookies Damone Clark and Markquese Bell after Leighton Vander Esch suffered a neck injury.

The team needed depth at linebacker, but Evans only saw action on special teams in the team’s loss to Miami last week.

Over the past three seasons, Evans has started 29 games. His departure will be noticed on special teams and on the depth chart of a linebacking unit that is already deficient.
