HC Report: He will be back in the Saints starting lineup after he was benched last week to improve our game.

Alontae Taylor will be back in the Saints starting lineup after he was benched last week

The Saints substituted veteran Ugo Amadi for second-year cornerback Alontae Taylor in the defensive lineup midway through last week’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

After the game, Allen said that Taylor had moved his eyes out of place a few times. On Tuesday, he repeated this claim, saying, “We felt like (benching Taylor) was the right move to make at that moment in the game.”

However, that personnel choice won’t affect the Buccaneers game this week. Taylor stated on Wednesday that he anticipates returning to his starting position, and Allen had no qualms about using Taylor again.

I still have all the confidence in the world in Alontae,” Allen said. “I think he’ll respond the right way.”

Taylor had to learn how to play the nickel corner position prior to the start of the season. He’s made his share of big plays there this season, but his relative inexperience showed last week against a Rams offense that excels at getting players out of position.

“That’s their offense,” Taylor said. “And that’s what they do good at. Nickel is new to me, fitting run gaps is really new to me, too. That was my first real test, at fitting run gaps and depending on motions and stuff. Obviously, I would say I failed that test.

“But I have the tape, so now I kind of know what to do if another team was to do something like that.”

New Orleans Saints cornerback Alontae Taylor (1) competes with Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Richie James (17) during a NFL preseason game at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Sunday, August 13, 2023.

Taylor said that his response to the news that he would be sitting on the bench wasn’t the best after receiving it from the Saints coaching staff. However, a number of Saints greats, such as Derek Carr and Tyrann Mathieu, came up to him on the sidelines to soothe him. Taylor received particular recognition from Carr for coming through for his teammates right away after being benched.

Taylor stated that he is prepared to return to the field and is moving past the events of the previous week.

Taylor stated, “It is what it is.” “Coach came to a choice. took off with it. A fresh week brings new possibilities. Just play ball now; I’m starting this week.
