‘He’s a threat’ – EFL boss delivers verdict on Bradford City man

Newport County boss Nelson Jardim has said Bradford City striker Andy Cook is a ‘threat’ but believes his team dealt with him well on the whole.

Bradford City defeated the Welsh side 3-1 in their last League Two match on Monday night.
Cook, 33, scored his team’s opening goal at Valley Parade. Kyle Hudlin leveled for the visitors, but Jamie Walker and Bobby Pointon added to the hosts’ lead.

According to The Telegraph & Argus, Jardim later stated: “We were attempting to halt the problems at their source, because we know once the ball gets around him, he’s a menace. Overall, I believe we’ve done well. Yes, he scored the goal, but there were other times when we were in the right position at the right time.

He went on to say, “It wasn’t the outcome we wanted, but I thought we were good, and I saw a lot of growth from the previous away games. We fought back into the game to 1-1, and I thought we were the better team until we conceded a second goal. That was slightly unjust, and the third occurred after we had lost our shape.

“I don’t think there was a two-goal difference, but that’s football. It was a defeat with many positives, as well as minor details that we must ensure are correct.

Bradford City striker latest

Cook has been Bradford City’s main striker for several years and is prolific in the fourth tier.
He joined his current club on an initial loan agreement in 2020, which was then made permanent.
To date, the attacker has made 176 appearances for Yorkshire in all competitions, scoring 77 goals and assisting 22 times.

Cook has already scored five goals this season.
Prior to joining Bradford City, the Bishop Auckland native represented Carlisle United, Barrow, Grimsby Town, Tranmere Rovers, Walsall, and Mansfield Town.

He is under contract until June 2026, thus he still has more than a year left on his contract.

What now?

Cook will be hungry to increase his tally in the coming weeks and months.

This season, the Bantams want to be promoted to League One under Graham Alexander, who formerly managed MK Dons and Salford City.
