The 27-year-old is still without a deal for 2025.

Collingwood is allegedly interested in acquiring St Kilda giant Jack Hayes during the AFL trade season to strengthen their forward and ruck positions.

Hayes, 27, recently passed a physical with the Magpies, underlining Collingwood’s significant interest in the South Australian, according to 7NEWS’ top AFL reporter, Mitch Cleary.

With Hayes out of contract and facing an unclear future at St Kilda, the Magpies are taking advantage of the chance to add a ready-made player with proven talent to their roster.

Hayes is a top priority for Collingwood head coach Craig McRae in the forward and ruck positions, according to Cleary.

“He is one name to keep an eye on over the next nine days,” Cleary said, adding that Hayes, who will turn 28 next season, is approaching his peak and could have an instant impact on the team.

Hayes began his AFL career as a mature-aged recruit from SANFL powerhouse Woodville-West Torrens, where he was praised for his flexibility and consistency, even captaining South Australia’s state squad in 2021.

Despite his brief AFL career owing to continuous injury setbacks, Hayes made a spectacular debut in Round 1 of 2022, scoring three goals against Collingwood, and has shown some promise as a solid forward target.

Adding Hayes to Collingwood’s team might boost the club’s forward firepower, complementing Brady Mihocek and Dan McStay as they aim for another championship.

Collingwood has signed GWS’ Harry Perryman as a free agent and is also interested in Port Adelaide’s Dan Houston to strengthen their roster.

A move to sign Hayes is consistent with Collingwood’s proactive attitude this trade season, as the club seeks to maintain its championship status a year after winning the flag in 2023.

They do not have a first-round choice in the upcoming National Draft, but will stay active in the coming weeks.
