Ex-Man Utd star almost lost thumb in freak accident away from Premier League duty.

Axel Tuanzebe, a defender for Ipswich, had a bizarre accident at home that nearly cost him his thumb. As a result, he required surgery and missed Saturday’s Premier League match against West Ham.

After a serious accident when cleaning the dishes, former Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe had surgery to save his thumb.

Tuanzebe was noticeably missing from Saturday’s Premier League match against West Ham, despite being a mainstay in Ipswich’s

starting eleven for every match this season. The 26-year-old was a huge loss for Kevin McKenna’s team at the London Stadium, where

they lost 4-1. He was crucial to the Tractor Boys’ rise out of the championship.

Following the game, the manager of Ipswich revealed that Tuanzebe was sidelined because of a hand injury sustained in a “very

unfortunate accident.”. The right-back suffered a serious cut on his hand after breaking a glass while doing laundry, as reported by the

Mail.

Although Tuanzebe needed emergency medical attention, his thumb was thankfully spared after a successful surgery.

It’s unclear when Tuanzebe will be able to return to the field. It seems unlikely that he will make a recovery with Ipswich scheduled to

play Everton on October 19 in a crucial Premier League matchup that will determine who is at the bottom of the table.

Tuanzebe suffered a hand injury in a terrible accident, and McKenna has acknowledged that his absence will be felt. He has had

surgery and will be out for some time. It’s likely going to take longer than a few weeks. Discussions with the experts are still ongoing.”

The player’s absence comes as a significant blow, with his manager conceding: “He’s naturally a miss with the way he’s started the

season. He’s going to be out for a little while. We’re going to have to adjust and regroup as a team.”

Tuanzebe made the move to Ipswich in September 2023 following loan spells at Stoke City from Manchester United. A product of the

United academy, Tuanzebe showed considerable potential but only managed 37 appearances for the first team.

He played for Stoke and Napoli in addition to three loan appearances at Aston Villa. After having his contract extended in the summer,

Tuanzebe is now a permanent member of the Ipswich team and is concentrated on recovering quickly from a hand injury.

In September 2023, Tuanzebe left Manchester United for a loan stint with Stoke City before moving to Ipswich. Tuanzebe, a United

academy graduate, had a lot of promise but was limited to just 37 first team games.

McKenna has his work cut out for him during the current international break. West Ham, who defeated them at home for the first

time this season, just destroyed his team.

“Everyone is out there with the right intent but it is how we cover each action,” McKenna said, reflecting on team relationships and

difficulties. “I don’t think it is anything we don’t know but the game can change very, very quickly for a team in our position,” she

continued. The game might easily get away from you if you lose your level.
