Edwards faces a ‘horrible’ wait to face Watford after insipid display at Blades

Hatters chief knows Town have to be so much better against Hornets

Luton manager Rob Edwards described it as ‘terrible’ that his team would now get a fortnight off before facing Sheffield United, whom they suffered a 2-0 defeat on

Saturday.

The Hatters put on an awful and confused display at Bramall Lane, giving Chris Wilder’s side, who have responded far better to relegation from the Premier League,

one of the easiest victories of the season, with Jesurun Rak-Sakyi waltzing through twice to score in either half. The result means that Town entered the

international break fourth bottom in the Championship table, with five defeats from their first nine games, and are only one point away from relegation, despite

having set out to win the league at the start of the season.

In fact, Luton won’t have a chance to respond until they face their fiercest rivals Watford at Kenilworth Road, with Tom Cleverley’s side having been hit and miss of

late, losing three out of six games before recovering to beat Middlesbrough 2-1 on Saturday and climb to sixth place in the table.

The Hertfordshire club aims to reclaim their pride after a 2-0 loss at Kenilworth Road during their previous visit. Edwards stated that they will need to work hard

and come together to fix the situation. We’ll have a long time to think about it, which is unfortunate, but when we return to the pitch, we’ll be able to get around them

again, try to feel better about the situation because there will be some excellent work going on, and that’s all we can do. There will be a lot of people feeling like me

around the country in the next weeks, but we now have some time to work on some of the issues.”

On whether it was a plus to face a Hornets side whose fans will expect nothing less than a massive performance full of fight, heart, and desire, something that was

clearly lacking against United, Edwards, who was fired by Watford after only 10 games in charge in September 2022, added: “I see it as an opportunity for us.

There’s no excuse in that one for not winning challenges, competitions, or duels, so we can go for it over the next few weeks.”
