Celtic hero fears Brendan Rodgers’ judgment clouded as straight shooter winces over pasting

Alan Stubbs was dissatisfied, and he has explained why things went so wrong.

Former Celtic star Alan Stubbs believes Brendan Rodgers’ judgement was affected before his team’s defeat to Borussia Dortmund.

The Scouser believes the Irishman’s detractors will judge him as foolish. However, Stubbs is concerned about the possibility of going all-in and being ripped apart by the Champions League finalists. Rodgers delivered an impassioned justification of his methods to a fans that dared to believe their dismal away record in UEFA’s premier competition was about to change.

Stubbs told BestBettingSites.com that the answer is subjective. Some people will respond, ‘Well done for sticking to your convictions and what you want to do.’ Others will argue it’s naive. The SPFL and the Champions League are two very different games, and when you face a recent finalists, the quality will be at a level you have not seen before.

Celtic suffered a crushing defeat against a quality Dortmund team. I’m not sure how good it is for the players’ confidence to take such a beating, despite Brendan’s previous claims that it’s an experience his players will gain from.”

Stubbs has been buoyed by domestic domination, but he believes the former Leicester and Liverpool manager’s judgement was skewed during the emphatic 5-1 victory against Slovan Bratislava. Stubbs continued: “Celtic have been excellent in the league, always blowing opponents away. Some of their football has been exceptionally good.

“They have looked on a completely different level than the other sides in Scotland and are a cut above the rest. I don’t think any of Scotland’s teams can compete with their speed and ability to move the ball.

“The Champions League is a completely different level. Brendan’s judgement may have been affected by Celtic’s stunning victory over Slovan Bratislava at home on the opening night. Celtic performed well, but there is a difference between playing Slovan Bratislava at Celtic Park against Borussia Dortmund.

“To go to Dortmund and still try to play that style of football against a team that is so quick on the counter, with better players – Celtic were completely undone.”
