Our verdict on the latest Premier League transfer rumours – with news from Aston Villa, Arsenal, Spurs, Manchester United and Liverpool.
Welcome to Tuesday’s round-up of the biggest and boldest Premier League transfer rumours currently doing the media rounds – and we’ll open up today’s offering with news of a potential bidding war between North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
The target of the two-way transfer scrap would be Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey, who could be on his way with the club “reluctantly” willing to cash in on the home-grown academy product in 2025 – at least, according to TeamTalk.
Citing a report which first appeared in The Daily Mail, the article suggests that Villa are prepared to sell him in order to pocket the proceeds for profit and sustainability purposes. With two years left on his contract, Villa may end up considering bids next year to avoid the risk of losing him for a reduced price or even for free down the line. No price tag is mentioned, although reports from this summer linked both Spurs and Arsenal with bids of anything from £30m up to £50m.
Man Utd target gives verdict on potential move
It’s not often that the players transfer rumours are centred on actually provide their own opinions to the media, but England and Lille midfielder Angel Gomes has bucked that trend by offering up his verdict on a potential move back to the Premier League, as Caught Offside report.
Apparently playing in the Premier League is “not the be-all and end-all” but it would “be difficult to say no” – a sentence which will likely be music to the ears of former club Manchester United, who have been heavily linked with a bid to bring him back to Old Trafford. Gomes is entering the last year of his contract with the Ligue 1 club, although it’s not clear whether United might make a move in January.
Real’s Liverpool raid gets complicated
Finally, we have another update in the rapidly-growing saga surrounding Real Madrid’s apparent pursuit of Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold, provided to us courtesy of Sport Witness who have picked up on some rumblings in the Spanish media.
Apparently there has been some discussion over whether Real might make a move for the England wing-back in January rather than waiting until he’s available on a Bosman at the end of the summer, not least because of a serious injury sustained by Dani Carvajal over the weekend. That’s sped plans up, with their “main target” now one they’re looking at this winter. Liverpool fans may not need to panic, however, because Mundo Deportivo’s report reckons that it would be a “complicated” move to pull off.
The only way Liverpool sell Alexander-Arnold in January is if they would make a fortune they’d otherwise miss out and they don’t believe they’re in serious contention for silverware – and with growing confidence that they will get a new contract sorted, we suspect that this is a story that won’t go anywhere, at least in January.
