This was a total team effort.
Have you been able to catch your breath yet, NY Giants fans? Late in the showdown with the Seattle Seahawks, let’s be real, it felt like the G-Men were going to choke things away at Lumen Field. Instead, this team stepped up as a whole and posted an unforgettable road win against the Seahawks.
Instead of being 1-4 and down in the dumps, Brian Daboll and Co. are 2-3 on the year after a statement road win. Things very easily could have gone south in this one, but the Giants never stopped believing. Daboll and his coaches have these players to thank for the victory:
We’ve all seen this movie before, but with a different ending. Normally, we would have expected Myers to nail the kick to force overtime. Then, Seattle would have won it in OT. Not this time, though. Simmons and Ford-Wheaton were the late heroes. Take a bow, you two.
5. DT Dexter Lawrence
We’re running out of good things to say for the man known as Sexy Dexy. In the win, Dexter Lawrence was a total force in the trenches. Lawrence posted three (yes three!) sacks of Geno Smith. A hat-trick for the All-Pro defensive tackle? Heck yes. Time and time again, Lawrence makes opposing offensive linemen look like they’re on a JV squad. Lawrence was superb against the Seahawks and he now has six sacks on the season.
4. CB Deonte Banks
In Week 3 and Week 4, cornerback Deonte Banks looked rough. He got cooked by Amari Cooper in Cleveland and then CeeDee Lamb had his way with him at MetLife Stadium. Even Jerome Henderson was unhappy with Banks’ play, calling him out for his effort against Dallas.
Things changed in a big way at Lumen Field, however. Banks was tremendous in going up against DK Metcalf. Normally, Metcalf dominates opposing CBs, but the Giants DB held his own and then some. Banks tallied six tackles, three pass deflections and a forced fumble. We owe Banks an apology – he answered the call for this defense.
3. QB Daniel Jones
Give this man his flowers. Without Malik Nabers, it really felt like the G-Men were going to be in for a brutal day on offense. However, Daboll called a brilliant game and Daniel Jones took advantage. Jones looked like a $140 million QB and not even his biggest of haters can argue with that. Jones tossed for 257 yards and two touchdowns. He also became the first QB in team history to reach 2,000 career rushing yards. What a game for Danny Dimes.
2. WR Darius Slayton
We will admit, we were calling for Joe Schoen to trade Darius Slayton, potentially to the Chiefs, ahead of the deadline. Now? Give him the keys to the city. Slayton had a monster game for the G-Men, finishing with a team-high eight receptions for 122 yards and a touchdown. Slayton’s day started with a brutal drop, which was infuriating. However, he put on a show after that, highlighted by this sweet TD grab:
1. RB Tyrone Tracy Jr.
No Devin Singletary, no problem for the Giants. While it looked like running back Eric Gray was going to get the bulk of the workload early, his fumble at the one, which turned into a 101-yard score for Seattle, forced Daboll to change things up.
Enter rookie Tyrone Tracy Jr., who was unreal. Tracy carried the ball 18 times for 129 yards. WOW. This was a breakout game for the fifth-round pick and the kind of performance that has people calling for him to take over as the RB1 for this team. Tracy was fantastic and he took care of the football. This was also a game he’ll remember for a long time.
