FIFA Puskas Award: No Bamford is an insult to Leeds man

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford can count himself incredibly unlucky that he has not been nominated for the 2024 Puskas Award for his stunning volley against Peterborough United.

The Whites are making a regular habit of scoring goals in the Championship under Daniel Farke, and while there is a debate over the lack of entertainment at Elland Road, Leeds haven’t been short of good goals along the way.

With that, there might have been some hope that Leeds had some involvement in the nominations for the 2024 FIFA Puskas Award.

On Thursday evening, FIFA opened the voting for this year’s Puskas Award, a celebration of “spectacular” goals scored during the qualifying period.

Patrick Bamford’s stunning volley v Peterborough harshly left out

A collection of simply incredible goals, but one that we can’t help but feel should have been making the list (obviously with a hint of bias),  against Peterborough United back in January.

A stunning strike in that 3-0 win, Bamford chested to control a long ball from Ethan Ampadu, before volleying over his shoulder beyond the ‘keeper and into the far corner from over 25 yards from goal:
