Régis Le Bris explains Sunderland plan for international break and what he’ll be focusing on

Régis Le Bris details Sunderland’s international break schedule and his priorities.
Sunderland will take a break from competitive play following their Friday night 2-2 draw with Leeds.

During the international break, Régis Le Bris is excited to refine his tactical concepts.

Above all, the extended break before Sunderland’s trip to Hull City will enable his players to recuperate from a demanding schedule and provide the team with the chance to get some important players back to full condition. However, it will also provide Le Bris with an opportunity to work with his team and build on their positive season opener, winning nineteen points from the first nine games.

Le Bris believes that identifying Sunderland’s weak points and areas for improvement will be much easier this season because there is a larger sample size to analyze than there was at the last international break. He had an idea of what those areas would be after Sunderland’s 2-2 draw with Leeds United.

“We need to make an assessment of the last round of games we’ve had and I think it is also important now that the players rest and recover,” Le Bris stated.

“We will study deeper our game and I think it is easier now because it is less unstable, we can find easier now the two or three things we need to develop. Now that the team’s talent and foundation are solid, it should be simpler to identify the areas for improvement.

“We now have to get better. For instance, we mark man for man in our 4-4-2 formation. We still want to use a strong press, but it causes us a lot of issues if we can’t win the second ball. We may create these kinds of circumstances during the international break.”

After the international break, Le Bris hopes that Aaron Connolly will be ready to make his debut. Dan Ballard and Eliezer Mayenda should also be ready to be selected for the October 20th trip to Hull City. Connolly will play in his debut red-and-white shirt games for the U21s over the international break, according to Le Bris.
