Manchester United make contact with the new agent of Sporting Lisbon star Geovany Quenda

United has been mentioned as an interested party in Quenda for some weeks, and the links have only become

stronger since Ruben Amorim was appointed as club manager.

According to a recent story by The Peoples Person, Sporting expects United to bid for Quenda this summer.

The teenager is expected to leave Liga Portugal, with Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City reportedly keen in

signing him.

After impressing with the club’s B team in Portugal’s third division last season, Quenda has emerged as a vital player

for Sporting’s main squad in the current 2024/25 season.

Last year, Amorim included Quenda in Sporting’s matchday squad at the age of 16. Last month, the forward created

history as the club’s youngest league goalscorer, scoring against Famalicão. He broke Cristiano Ronaldo’s long-

standing record.

Quenda is also the youngest player in Sporting history to make his Champions League debut.

So far this season, the Guinea-Bissau-born player has made 20 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals

and providing two assists.

According to Samuel Luckhurst of Manchester Evening News, Manchester United has met with Jorge Mendes to

discuss purchasing Sporting winger Geovany Quenda.

“Mendes’ Gestifute firm is negotiating on behalf of 17-year-old Quenda’s agent, Igor Campedelli. United have been

following Quenda since he made his Sporting debut in August. According to a second source, Mendes purchased 50%

of Quenda’s image rights.

“Mendes is scheduled to hold more meetings with clubs in the coming weeks to determine the most suitable move for

Quenda, who now seems certain to leave Sporting next year.”

Luckhurst observes that United has a good relationship with Mendes, which dates back to Ronaldo’s initial tenure at

Old Trafford. The super-agent also represented David de Gea for several years and played an important part in

Bruno Fernandes’ transfer to England.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol believes Amorim “has not made any requests” for January additions.

According to Solhekol, Amorim is now focused on developing the current crop of players at his disposal and has had

no inquiries about Quenda or Viktor Gyokeres.

Perhaps United’s meeting with Mendes was about one of the dozens of other players Mendes represents, not

Quenda.

The Red Devils return to Premier League action on Sunday, hosting Sean Dyche’s Everton.
