Norwich City should weigh-up Timothy Fosu-Mensah risks and look at two other free agents in October

Norwich City should weigh-up Timothy Fosu-Mensah’s risks and look at two other free agents in October.

Johannes Hoff Thorup, the manager of Norwich City, had a busy first transfer window in his tenure.

Although he took over a team that had qualified for the playoffs the previous season, the 35-year-old saw the departure of key players Jonathan Rowe and Gabriel Sara.

Thorup had to contend with numerous distractions as he went about making his own mark on the squad, with transfer sagas involving Adam Idah and Abu Kamara playing out until they were also eventually sold.ad.

To be fair to the club, they did back the new boss where possible, and there was a focus on young, exciting talents, with Ante Crnac, Amankwah Forson and Oscar Schwartau among those to come through the door.

There have been promising signs since the window closed, and fans will be backing Thorup to bring success to Carrow Road in the long-term.

However, the squad still does look weak in certain areas, and here we look at THREE free agents the club should consider signing…

Timothy Fosu-Mensah

Timothy Fosu-Mensah

Fosu-Mensah will be known to fans in English football as he joined Man Utd as a teenager and would go on to make 30 appearances for the club.

Fosu-Mensah joined Bayer Leverkusen in 2021 following loan stints at Crystal Palace and Fulham. However, he only made 30 appearances for the German team in the previous three years until being cut this summer.

Sadly, injuries have limited Fosu-Mensah’s career thus far. However, at 26, he may still have a lot to give, and the Canaries would benefit greatly from his presence if he can maintain his fitness.

He may play defensive midfield, right back, or centre back. He would provide strength and physicality to the Norwich team, and the fact that he has experience playing for teams like United and Leverkusen indicates that his skill is well-known.

Although there is a danger given his history of injuries, if done properly.

Edouard Michut

Edouard Michut Sunderland

Michut, another unsigned free agent with English football experience, is searching for a new club after quitting Turkish team Adana Demirspor in August for unpaid pay.

The 21-year-old is a technically gifted football player who rose through the PSG levels, making him a perfect fit for the playstyle that Thorup is trying to promote.

Because of his advanced age, he also meets the club’s desired player profile, since he has room to grow and improve even more in the future.

Michut’s experience at Sunderland will have helped him during any transition period by providing him with a taste of what the Championship is all about.

Rafael Camacho (2)

Last but not least, Camacho is a player that some Norwich supporters may recognise since the winger was linked to the club in 2023, however a deal never happened.

That does, however, indicate that he is a player who the recruitment staff has previously taken notice of and may give another go now that he is available for free.

The 24-year-old gained notoriety when he joined Sporting CP in 2019 for a transfer price above £5 million, but his tenure with the Portuguese powerhouse didn’t work out as expected. He has spent most of his recent playing time on loan from Liverpool.

He is another who fits the profile of what Norwich wants, and he would give Thorup another quick, direct option in attack.
