Brentford 5-3 Wolves: Thomas Frank's side strike early again as Bees keep rivals winless thanks to SIX goals in the first half | Daily Mail Online

If you have a ticket to see Brentford this season, please arrive on time.

After scoring in the first minute of their previous three Premier League encounters, Thomas Frank’s team seized the lead after only 76 seconds in this one.

Brentford has never scored four first-minute goals in a Premier League season, but if they keep up this pace, they will break the record.

Despite losing eight points in three games, they started well and scored four goals in the first half, putting pressure on Wolves and Gary O’Neill.

Wolves have had their worst start to a top-flight season since 1964, with no wins in seven games. O’Neil, who signed a four-year deal in August, faces a daunting schedule with Manchester City and Brighton coming up after the international break.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank congratulates the home side’s supporters following their victory.

His team won the coin toss and rightly opted to kick off to chants of ‘We’re going to score in a minute’ from the home crowd, but little over a minute later, Mikkel Damsgaard’s cross reached center half Nathan Collins, who headed past Sam Johnstone. It seemed hardly credible.

However, Wolves equalised two minutes later when Nelsen Semedo found Matheus Cunha, who sidefooted into the corner.

At this point, Frank would have dreaded the same fate that had befallen Brentford in each of their prior three games, when they failed to score again and surrendered points after taking the lead, but the home side were back in front after 20 minutes.

Mario Lemina had his arms all over Collins in the area, and after a VAR review, Andy Madley pointed to the spot, and Bryan Mbeumo sent Johnstone the wrong direction. Mbeumo has now scored six goals in six Premier League games from the spot. Who needs Ivan Toney?

Wolves responded by equalising six minutes later when Rayan Ait-Nouri’s cross was smartly completed by Jorgen Strand Larsen, but Brentford regained the lead less than 90 seconds later.

O’Neil’s team negligently lost the ball deep in their own half, and Vitaly Janelt set up Christian Norgaard, who took a touch and scored well in the bottom corner.

The home side should have increased their advantage minutes later, but Kevin Schade’s header was saved by Johnstone, and Wolves were punished in extra time when Ethan Pinnock was unmarked and headed in from Damsgaard’s corner.

On the touchline, O’Neil was furious but refused to make any half-time changes. When he did make a change just before the hour mark, putting Hwang Hee-Chan on for Andre, the travelling Wolves support responded with chants of ‘You don’t know what you’re doing,’ followed by chants of ‘We want Fosun out’ in reference to the owners.

They never threatened to make it a nail-biting finale for Brentford, who made it five in the 90th minute thanks to substitute Fabio Carvalho before Ait-Nouri equalized in extra time.

Brentford were simply too superior for the Midlands team and won their third game of the season.

Wolves remain at the basement of the Premier League, having won just one of their past 17 games.

O’Neil is accurate in pointing out that his team has already faced Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Aston Villa, and Newcastle this season, but this was not a good performance.

Frank’s three points were a welcome comfort after dropping a league-high 38 points from winning positions since the start of last season.
