Hull City head coach Tim Walter fumes at two refereeing decisions after Norwich City hammering

The Tigers’ three-game winning run was ended by the clinical Canaries

Tim Walter was upset with referee Tom Nield after he denied a Joao Pedro goal on his Hull City debut in a 4-0 loss to Norwich City.

City were 3-0 down at Carrow Road when Pedro converted an Abu Kamara cross late in the game, a goal that the German believed may have started a comeback in

the final moments.

Referee Nield and his assistant determined that Pedro used his arm to redirect the cross into the back of the net. However, after reviewing the replays, Walter was

dissatisfied with the judgment, claiming that it was his shoulder, which should have been allowed under the most recent handball regulations.

“It’s a goal for me, a goal with my shoulder,” the German told Hull Live at Carrow Road. “On the other side, the assistant winked, and it’s a penalty, for no apparent

reason.”

“It’s not an excuse that we lost here, but it may be annoying. As I have stated, they deserved to win because they were more clinical than we were. Everyone else has

to make a decision and drive home with a nice feeling, and if you performed well on the field, you can do the same.”

Though City were soundly thrashed at Carrow Road, with Norwich Sargent slamming a penalty against the post following Coyle’s handball, Walter thought his team

was still in the game. He blamed a flurry of errors for his team’s two goals conceded in each half, as well as their failure to score one.

“First of all, congratulations to the opposition, they deserved to win, because we did too many easy mistakes,” according to Walter. “We lost the ball or did not win

the duels because we had the ball so often, but we lost it quickly again, allowing them to score. They were more clinical than we had been, especially in the

offense. They were more sharp and direct in the defensive phase, so that’s what we need to understand. To be honest, it’s not like the outcome (is a fair reflection); if

someone watched the game, it could be slightly different. That’s the Championship; it’s really close, and a few mistakes and decisions can affect the entire game.”
