Leeds United: A cult favorite who scored “every type of goal” might fetch up to £20 million

This article is part of Football League World’s ‘Terrace Talk’ series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

During the height of his career, Luciano Becchio played for Leeds United, where he made over 200 appearances and was a constant threat in front of goal.

Becchio enjoyed a fantastic five and a half seasons in Yorkshire, scoring goals in the Championship and supporting the Whites throughout their difficult moments in League One.

In addition to his goal scoring prowess, the Argentine is still recognized for his playmaking from the number nine position and his movement off the ball.

Considered a cult figure in the Championship, he is undoubtedly among the best strikers to have played for the team since 2004.

Even if he isn’t as well-known as past Championship greats, Leeds would undoubtedly want a high price for his services in the current market.

Leeds’ assessment of Becchio’s value in the current market

Kris Smith, a Leeds United commentator for FLW, has stated that Becchio would garner a respectable transfer worth in the current transfer market.

“I think Becchio would have fit into that category given his caliber in the Championship, but when I look back at the recent complete attackers in the Championship who went on to do major things elsewhere, you’re looking at Viktor Gyokeres, Oliie Watkins, and Ivan Toney as the three standouts.

“He had a plethora of goals in his arsenal from every position, particularly considering that he entered the Championship directly after our promotion from League One.

“You would think that a Leeds team that would be in a better financial situation now would have demanded a far higher fee back then. The swap agreement we ultimately obtained from Norwich City for Steve Morison was disgraceful.

“I don’t think you’re getting Georgino Rutter money like £40 million since he didn’t have huge potential at that age when he peaked in the early 2010s, when he was in his late 20s.

“However, I do think you could feasibly command about £20 million for a Becchio-quality player in today’s market, an out-and-out number nine who didn’t just score goals but provided around him as well.”

Daniel Farke should consider adding Becchio to his Leeds team.

At £20 million, he would rank among the top scorers in the Championship right now.

Furthermore, he would be an incredible complement to Farke’s existing Leeds team. In previous seasons, Leeds’ squad has always been influenced by the quantity of opportunities they generate. He would devour the opportunities presented by players such as Largie Ramazani and Wilfried Gnonto.

Without a doubt, he would start ahead of Patrick Bamford, Joel Piroe, and Mateo Joseph. These are still excellent choices, but in the current game, a prime Becchio would be quite successful.

With Leeds, he played in every league campaign and amassed double figures in goals, thus his numbers with the Whites speak for themselves.

He would definitely start before Joel Piroe, Mateo Joseph, and Patrick Bamford. While they are still great options, a prime Becchio would be quite effective in the current game.

He played in every league season with Leeds and scored ten or more goals, therefore his stats with the Whites are self-explanatory.

Although sealing a trade agreement for Morison with Norwich was a grave mistake, Becchio’s impact at the team lives on, and Leeds’ assessment indicates he would be a valuable addition in today’s game.
