Tottenham are plotting a move to sign Torino and Italy star Samuele Ricci with the help of former managing director Fabio Paratici.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who remains very well-connected at the club, explained that Tottenham could explore a deal for the midfielder next summer.

There is a view at Tottenham that a January deal may prove difficult to finalise due to the 23-year-old’s importance in the Torino first team.

Paratici officially stepped down as Tottenham’s managing director in 2023 following a 30-month ban in Italy for his role in financial malpractice and a capital gains scandal which also saw Juventus docked 15 points.

However, the majority of Spurs’ scouting and recruitment system was established under his guidance, and they have reportedly maintained contact with the 52-year-old.

Previous success at recruiting from Serie A under Paratici is something the club have looked to continue, with their sights now set on Ricci.

The midfielder’s four Italy caps and 85 appearances since joining Torino have grabbed the attention of top clubs across Europe who are considering moves to land his signature.

So far this season, Ricci has been a mainstay in Torino’s starting XI, having started each of their opening six Serie A games, picking up three wins, two draws and one defeat.

Robertson, who made 175 appearances during his time at Spurs, explained that the position is not a priority for Ange Postecoglou, but the club will still be interested in completing a deal.

I think it’ll be a tough one to do in the winter,” he told Football Insider.

If you look at the way the team’s played in recent weeks in more of a 4-3-3 formation, I’m not sure whether the midfield will be a pressing position.

But he’s a young player, he’s only 23 years old and he’s already got four caps for Italy.

Tottenham are certainly interested in signing him.

I think it’ll be tough to do in the winter but that is potentially one they’ll explore in the summer.

We know that Spurs like to do their business in Italy.

They’ve had a lot of success from players who have come to the club from the Serie A, and maybe that’s why Ricci is the latest name to be mentioned.

It’s still got the fingerprints of Fabio Paratici working with Tottenham’s recruitment team.”
