Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier infuriates Sunderland fans at Stadium of Light.

Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier managed to get under the skin of Sunderland fans at the Stadium of Light on 4 October.

The Frenchman’s late-game howler saw the game end 2-2, but with the score at 2-1, the 24-year-old went down with what appeared to be an injury.

They believed that the Frenchman was squandering time while Daniel Farke’s team attempted to hold out for a historic victory away from home.

On X, journalist Matt Hewitt of Chronicle Live stated, “Alan Browne has taken Chris Rigg’s post. Illan Meslier is being attended to. #SAFC supporters who believe Leeds’ goalie is squandering time are not happy.

Illan Meslier is pivotal to Leeds United getting promoted this season

It’s ridiculous to think that he was wasting time when he was getting treatment as there were legitimate fears of an injury.

Meslier obviously had a tough second half to endure and hopefully, he comes out of it stronger as he has been under-fire recently.

Junior Firpo’s response to the mistake was unjustified, as the Frenchman is currently in need of support from his teammates and the supporters.

Though, regrettably, the howler at the end is what everyone will remember from the game, he did make a few crucial stops.

Hopefully, he doesn’t let that bother him and takes advantage of the international break to relax and take his mind off the game in order to come back to his best mental state.

He will be essential to Leeds and Daniel Farke over the remainder of the season as they pursue a Premier League comeback.
