Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier infuriates Sunderland fans at Stadium of Light

Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier managed to get under the skin of Sunderland fans at the Stadium of Light on 4 October.

The Frenchman’s late-game howler brought the score to 2-2, but the home crowd was displeased when the 24-year-old went down with what appeared to be an injury.

They believed that the Frenchman was squandering time while Daniel Farke’s team attempted to hold out for a historic victory away from home.

Journalist Matty Hewitt of Chronicle Live stated on X that Alan Browne had taken Chris Rigg’s job. Illan Meslier is being attended to. #SAFC supporters who believe Leeds’ goalie is squandering time are not happy.

This season’s promotion of Leeds United depends heavily on Illan Meslier.

The idea that he was spending time receiving therapy because he was afraid of getting hurt is absurd.

Meslier clearly endured a difficult second half, and given his previous criticism, perhaps he emerges from it stronger.

Junior Firpo’s response to the mistake was unjustified, as the Frenchman is currently in need of support from his teammates and the supporters.

Though, regrettably, the howler at the end is what everyone will remember from the game, he did make a few crucial stops.

Hopefully, he doesn’t let that bother him and takes advantage of the international break to relax and take his mind off the game in order to come back to his best mental state.

He will be essential to Leeds and Daniel Farke over the remainder of the season as they pursue a Premier League comeback.

In other Leeds United news, a “horrible” update from Elland Road indicates that Gretar Steinsson will have a busy weekend.
