Dante believes OGC Nice-Lazio should have been postponed amid torrential conditions in Rome

Dante believes OGC Nice-Lazio should have been postponed amid torrential conditions in Rome.

With storms raging throughout mainland Europe, several of this week’s UEFA Champions League, Europa League, and Europa Conference League matches took place in less-than-ideal circumstances. After AS Monaco rescued a 2-2 draw in Zagreb’s swimming pool on Wednesday night, it was OGC Nice’s turn to play under similar, if not worse, conditions.

The rainfall in Rome began well before the match between Nice and Lazio in the Europa League’s second round. And it never stopped. Lazio seized control of the game while the surface was still playable, and the Serie A side led 2-1 at halftime.

“The second half was no longer football.” – Nice manager Haise

However, as the second half continued, the ground got increasingly sodden, making dribbling difficult. It became long-ball football, and Lazio fared well under these conditions, eventually winning 4-1. However, Dante feels that the match should have been called off owing to the playing conditions.

“I believe that the game should have been postponed at some point. The Nice captain emphasized the importance of player health, stating that replaying the match would have been challenging given the current schedule. If one or two players were ill, the team would have questioned why.

Franck Haise was critical of the situation, although he did not echo Dante’s calls.”I’m not going to dwell on the second half too much, even if we immediately lost the third goal, which firmly put us out of reach, given the circumstances. I can’t discuss the game in the second half since there couldn’t be one. “The second half was no longer football,” remarked Nice’s manager.
