The former Wolves and Walsall forward has been covering EFL games for nearly 20 years, and notoriously scored Walsall’s winning goal against the Royals in the 2001 play-off final.
Couhig, an American lawyer who formerly led Wycombe Wanderers, was on the verge of taking over the Royals after an unsuccessful eight-year tenure under Dai Yongge.
“I feel for the players, coaches, staff, and most importantly, the fans,” Goodman told Grosvenor Sport. “They have been put through the wringer. Hope destroys you.
“Everyone hoped that this takeover proposal would be straightforward and that Rob Couhig would steer the club ahead without the worry of points penalty or transfer embargoes. We believed he’d give the club with financial security, eliminating the need for any further protests, but that has fallen through.
“The fans are disappointed by the lack of transparency as to why it fell through. That is the information the supporters deserve after everything they have been through.
“It’s almost like they’ve started from scratch. Takeovers may take months to complete, so they may have to wait a little longer. I am devastated for everyone involved with Reading.
“The players and management have performed admirably in the face of adversity. However, this cannot continue for much longer without having a severe influence on the players and Ruben Selles. If this continues, they’ll want out, which is a pity.
