Sources: Newcastle star agrees new contract until 2030

Football Insider has learned that Anthony Gordon has agreed to a new six-year contract with Newcastle United.

On the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior journalist Pete O’Rourke revealed that the soon-to-be-announced deal is expected to turn off interest from Liverpool, who were major suitors for Gordon in the summer.
Football Insider first reported on September 6th that the England winger was starting fresh contract talks, with an update a fortnight ago indicating that an agreement had been reached between the player and the club.

He had entered the final two years of his previous contract, and elite clubs such as Liverpool were considering a low-cost agreement for his services next summer.

Following widespread ties with a potential move to Anfield during the transfer season, many Newcastle fans speculated that he had been turned on.

The choice to sign such a long-term contract has put an end to speculation over his future at the club, although insiders say the Reds continue to admire him.

The 23-year-old has established himself as an important component in Eddie Howe’s squad, and the club hopes his commitment will put an end to uncertainty about his future.

Despite this interest, any team would have to offer a “huge” transfer fee to get the Magpies to sell in the near future.

Anthony Gordon commits to six-year Newcastle contract amid Liverpool speculation

Gordon has developed significantly under Howe’s management after his £45 million move from Everton to St James’ Park in January 2023.

Last season, he scored 12 goals and 11 assists in 48 games across all competitions, earning a spot on Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2024.

Despite some lackluster performances this season, the winger remains an important member of the first squad and has demonstrated his versatility by filling in as striker.

Amidst much uncertainty about his future, the club was keen to tie him down to a new long-term contract to safeguard his immediate future in the North East.

On September 29, Football Insider stated that the winger is now one of Newcastle’s highest-paid players, with Kieran Trippier and Bruno Guimaraes.
Gordon demonstrated his return to form in the 1-1 Premier League match with Manchester City, and he will be hoping to build on his new contract.
