Out-of-contract star James Peatling picks new club as he officially requests trade following interest from rivals Western Bulldogs

James Peatling has chosen a new club.
Speculation surrounded his future at GWS.
The Western Bulldogs expressed an interest in a trade.

James Peatling has sought a move away from GWS, amid rumors that the Western Bulldogs were interested in signing the out-of-contract midfielder.

The Giants selected the Sydneysider with the eighth choice in the 2021 AFL Mid-season Draft, and he has since been a valuable asset to the club while also receiving interest from other teams throughout the AFL.

It seems that both the Bulldogs and Collingwood were interested in signing the 24-year-old.

According to Fox Footy, GWS planned to sign him to a long-term contract, but Peatling is eager to go on.

In a surprising turn of events, GWS posted a statement on their club website on Peatling’s future, stating: ‘Giants midfielder James Peatling has informed the club he desires to be traded to the Adelaide Crows.’

According to journalist Riley Beveridge on X (previously Twitter), the GWS midfielder ‘told the club he will be transferring to the Crows.’

It comes as the Crows presently have picks 4, 25, 42, and 60 in the National Draft.

According to Channel Nine’s Tom Morris, they appear to be trying to sign Peatling to a four-year contract as long as an agreement can be reached.

The 24-year-old has had a successful season in the Giants’ midfield, kicking seven goals and registering an average of 5.1 tackles in 19 appearances.

The announcement comes after Peatling told SEN that extension talks with GWS were ‘going in the right path’.

According to reports, the Giants had also considered offering him a new four-year contract, but Peatling looks to want to join teammate Isaac Cumming in Adelaide.
The club announced earlier today that unrestricted free agent Cumming had chosen them over rivals Port and would join when the AFL’s free agency period begins on October 4.
