Norwich City under-21s: Uriah Djedje signs new contract

Djedje was a member of Johannes Hoff Thorup’s first team squad for a large portion of preseason, impressing fans in

meetings with Northampton Town, Club Brugge, and Standard Liege. Since then, he has become an important part

of the under-21s setup under Olly Lee and Alan Neilson, starting eight of their nine Premier League 2 games this

season and opening his goalscoring account with a strike in the most recent Premier League Cup draw with Bristol

City. The contract also includes a club option to extend by an additional 12 months, removing any doubts regarding

the 18-year-old’s future.

“It feels great,” he stated in an interview with the club’s official media regarding the contract. I am so delighted to be

here for a little while longer. I’m rather pleased with the work I’ve done here. I can’t wait to see what comes next,

what chances lie ahead, and what the future holds.

“I’m happy that my contract has been renewed here.I’m excited to see what comes next since I believe it’s the

outcome of all of my effort and commitment.

“This season has been interesting so far, not only for myself but also for all of the players and staff; we’re cooperating

with one another. Although it hasn’t been the smoothest of flights lately, we enjoyed a fantastic start to the season.

“From a personal viewpoint there’s always room for improvement, but I feel like I’ve done well enough to show that I

have made a lot of improvements, a lot of progression.”

Djedje thinks recent academy promotions have brought attention to the potential benefits, and he hopes to be the

latest in a long line of academy products to have a competitive first-team chance at Carrow Road.

He went on, “With the new management, it shows that there is that pathway.” “[Thorup] has a strong affinity for

younger players, and players like Gabe (Forsyth) and Elliot (Myles) have shown us the way.” “It just shows that it’s

possible, especially in my kind of position. I know who I’m chasing, and I know who I can take tips from, like

(Kenny) McLean or (Marcelino) Nunez, for example. But only the hard work will get me there.”
