Marco Gabbiadini shares Jack Clarke vs Romaine Mundle view that Sunderland fans will surely agree on

Even though Jack Clarke left the team in the summer, Sunderland supporters still talk about him a lot.

Following his £20 million summer transfer to Ipswich Town, Jack Clarke’s performance in the Premier League will undoubtedly pique the interest of Sunderland supporters.

He has yet to score for the Tractor Boys, although he has made four appearances in the Premier League and has given one assist thus far.

Clarke scored fifteen goals in the Championship last season; his strikes may have prevented Sunderland from relegating to League One.

Romaine Mundle has stepped up to the plate since his departure, making eight appearances for Regis Le Bris’ team in the Championship and scored three goals.

Mundle has received recognition for his contributions while Clarke was away. With Sunderland presently holding the top spot in the Championship table, he has undoubtedly lessened the blow of Clarke’s departure.

As Marco Gabbiadini has said, some may even contend that Sunderland is better overall without Clarke.

Marco Gabbiadini weighs in on Romaine Mundle vs Jack Clarke debate

Both Clarke and Mundle are good players. Clarke proved himself in two Championship seasons at the Stadium of Light, being fully deserved of his move to the Premier League.

Mundle is a different type of winger. He’s got a lot to prove still, but both he and Sunderland are performing excellently right now.

Speaking on Total Sport, discussing whether or not Sunderland are better without Clarke, Gabbiadini said that he thinks Mundle is a better winger than Clarke, but not necessarily a better goal-scorer.

Gabbiadini said of Mundle: “In many respects, his wing play is better than Clarke’s. Whether he’s going to be as good a goal-scorer, I don’t know.

“But I think his wing play is better because he can go both ways, and he just has that little bit more pace to go on the outside.”
