How Dutch media reacted to Wolves loanee Hugo Bueno’s Champions League debut for Feyenoord

Wolves loanee Hugo Bueno made his Champions League debut for Feyenoord in their 3-2 win over Girona.

While the Old Gold are suffering in Wolverhampton, Bueno fulfilled his dream by returning to his country to play in Feyenoord’s away win.
The left-back would not have expected to make his Champions League debut this time last season, but his wish came true when he began for his loan team.

Bueno’s side won an action-packed encounter that ended 3-2 for the visitors, with the Wolves defender making his European debut.

Dutch media react to Hugo Bueno’s Champions League display

After making his Feyenoord debut at the start of the season, Bueno missed many games due to injury, postponing his opportunity to impress.

That didn’t matter, though, because after returning on match day seven of the Eredivisie, Brian Priske picked the Wolves defender to his starting lineup against Girona.

Bueno played 71 minutes in a contest that had two own goals, a penalty miss, five goals, and nine yellow cards, and the Dutch media reacted to his performance.

The media ratings appeared to be focused on the left-back’s role in Girona’s opening goal, with Voetbal Primeur blaming the Spaniard of failing to intervene ‘adequately’.

“A scissor here, a stride there: Bueno isn’t hesitant to approach his opponent. However, he is originally placed to defend, and the Spaniard frequently struggles with this. He did not intervene properly in the first goal.”

As a result, the publication gave the Wolves loanee a 5.5 match rating, compared to his fantastic 7.8 rating from Voetbal Flitsen.

Despite failing to clear the danger in Girona’s first goal, Bueno was selected as Feyenoord’s third-best performer on the night by Voetbal Flitsen.

Voetbal Zone gave the defense a 6/10 rating and highlighted the fullback’s contribution in the game’s first goal.

“Not everything went wrong, but he had a slightly unfortunate role in the 1-0 victory when he received the ball against him from a corner and was unable to clear it. “David Lopez then scored.”

Wolves will be watching Bueno closely

Bueno is the most senior of the players who left Wolves on loan this summer, having been a regular in Gary O’Neil’s first team.

The Spaniard moved on loan to get more playing time, which appears to have been the perfect decision considering Priske’s faith in the player at Feyenoord.

Bueno’s Champions League debut was a memorable night for the defender, and more significantly, it provided Wolves with another opportunity to monitor his progress.

It is critical that the Spaniard has a successful season at Feyenoord, whether he returns and is re-integrated into O’Neil’s squad or is sold for a fair price.
