The Premier League’s biggest gamblers: Why Aston Villa’s audacious transfer plan and Sir Alex Ferguson-esque methodology could

backfire horribly.

Following his Champions League performance against Aston Villa, Harry Kane received harsh criticism from the German media.

Following their 9-2 victory over Dinamo Zagreb on the first matchday, Kane played the entire ninety minutes for Vincent Kompany’s

team as they attempted to win their second game of the new Champions League season.

But it was Villa who came out on top in a shock result, with Jhon Duran’s long-range effort proving the difference between the two

sides on a historical night at Villa Park.

The England captain cut a frustrated figure as he missed a great opportunity to level things up just moments from time, and

he appeared angered by Serge Gnabry refusing to square the ball in his direction for a tap in earlier in the game.

Additionally, Kane’s performance was harshly rated and met with criticism from the German journal BILD.

The newspaper stated of Kane, “had ankle problems after the Leverkusen clash, but was fit in time.” The England player was hardly

noticeable and lost a fantastic header opportunity to tie the score just before the finish.

Five out of six is Kane’s rating; one is the best, and six is the worst.

The same article also referred to him as “invisible” because, before the game, he had not added to his tally of 10 goals from seven

appearances.

Despite Unai Emery’s best efforts, Villa center backs Diego Carlos and Pau Torres kept Kane quiet during the victory over Zagreb, even

though Kane scored four goals.

“The captain of the English national team remained invisible when he returned home,” Bild said of Kane. The same way he handled

Leverkusen.

“He barely got off his one and only shot on goal seconds before the end of regulation.”

This weekend, Kane will make his England squad debut. He played almost the entire time in his team’s 1-1 tie with Xabi Alonso’s Bayer

Leverkusen.

Before then, he had scored five goals in four games during his excellent debut under Vincent Kompany, which included a hat-trick

against Holstein Kiel.

He wasn’t the only Bayern player to have received a low rating, with two other players from the German giants receiving the second-

worst score possible.Along with Kingsley Coman, Alphonso Davies was rated five for making ‘far too many easy mistakes’.

While Duran’s goal left goalkeeper and captain Manuel Neuer stranded in no man’s land when the in-form attacker lobbed him from

about 25 yards, Neuer received harsh criticism for his part in the play.

The veteran, who received a four in BILD’s ratings, was defeated with simply a long ball and a rookie effort.

Regarding the Bayern legend’s part in the goal, the magazine questioned, “Where was he?”

They went on: “When the goal was scored, his reckless style of play was penalized.” The goalkeeper was positioned excessively far in front of his net.
