LEOMINSTER, Mass. —A Leominster man died in an early-morning car crash Friday, according to police.

Officials said the single-car crash happened at 1:52 a.m. on Route 12 near Route 2.

According to police, vehicle struck a utility pole in the median. The victim was the sole occupant of the vehicle, which was destroyed in the crash.

The victim, identified as 21-year-old Luis Matias, was taken to HealthAlliance Hospital in Leominster, where he was pronounced dead.

Leominster police are investigating the cause of the crash.
