Fan Letters: “Chris Rigg to Birmingham City? Do me a favour”

Dear Roker Report,

I didn’t write in after the Watford game as I was still in disbelief over Neil’s monumental brain fart. Throwing away a point or potentially three as I felt we had the momentum to have nicked a late winner well and truly pissed in my cornflakes on Sunday!

Anyway, I’m over it now and that’s thanks to Jobe’s excellent Carlos Edwards impression and Wilson Isidor contributing to help bag the three points for the Lads.

Typical start for us: slow but compact.

Derby’s front line was well contained for the majority of the game, apart from when their #28 wriggled through to force Anthony Patterson into a smart stop, not long after Jobe put us ahead and then one scramble in the box during the second half.

Chris Mepham and Luke O’Nien have really gelled since they’ve been paired and it’s so reassuring that we have more than just two capable centre backs in the squad. It was nice to see Trai Hume play ninety minutes without having to fly into a tackle and just ushering players to where he wanted them!

The midfield finally got going and that was a much more mature display from our captain, but I will say this: he isn’t a CDM.

When he had the ball in the final third, he looked so much better. He links up play, runs off the ball, and plays tidy reverse passes.

There’s a big difference between Alan Browne and Dan Neil defensively, and that was clear when Browne came on to shut up shop. I feel he could come in for Chris Rigg against Leeds as the young man appeared a little leggy, albeit he still gave 100% as per usual.

That man Wilson, though. I like Eliezer Mayenda but Isidor just offers more.

His hold up play and ability to jink away from his marker with the ball at his feet whenever he received it is brilliant. The darting run to the near post to score was something we’ve been crying out for, and I did honestly think Nazariy Rusyn was going to be that man for us last season.

Could we see a 4-4-2 and either Rusyn or Mayenda up top alongside Isidor?
