Joel Piroe play-off final

Leeds United earned a draw against Norwich City yesterday night, putting them in the play-off positions ahead of their trip to leaders Sunderland on Friday.

In isolation, a point at Carrow Road is a fine one for the Whites. Norwich, who reached the top six last season, are fast improving under new manager Johannes Hoff Thorup after a sluggish start.

Leeds held the lead when Largie Ramazani equalized in the 60th minute, but it seemed like a squandered chance.

Daniel Farke will take away two key lessons from Leeds United’s 1-1 draw against Norwich City.

FLW outlines two things Daniel Farke will have learned following Leeds United’s 1-1 draw with Norwich.

Prior to the Norwich game, Piroe had scored in three of his prior four appearances, all as a substitute. When broken down by minutes, he scored three goals in fewer than 70 minutes.

As a result, he rapidly established himself as Farke’s go-to substitute, but unfortunately for the manager, Piroe fell short of his recent performance against the Canaries.

Joel Piroe experiences an incognito outing at Norwich City.

Despite coming on in the 70th minute, Piroe only touched the ball four times and failed to complete two pass attempts.

Farke expected Piroe to increase Leeds’ pressure, but he and fellow replacement Patrick Bamford struggled immediately.

Of course, the guilt does not fall solely on the player, as substitutes can occasionally break the game’s flow, and it appeared that this was the case.

Furthermore, as a striker, Piroe would be dependant on obtaining the ball in excellent positions, and for whatever reason, service and build-up slowed as he entered the game.

Nonetheless, Piroe can definitely do more on the pitch, and he surely did not impress Farke enough to warrant a spot in the XI at the Stadium of Light for that crucial match later this week.

Again, Piroe has performed admirably off the bench, demonstrating his ability to be a successful substitute; nonetheless, his performance versus Norwich served as a reminder that Farke must have other options on hand.

Last season, Leeds scored 90 points because to their depth, with players like Dan James and Jaidon Anthony frequently coming off the bench.

Leeds United may not have the star quality to affect the game, but they have a strong team that will impress Championship managers.

However, if they are to be successful, Piroe must demonstrate that his nondescript performance at Norwich was an exception, as he aims to return to scoring goals off the bench and reclaim his position in the starting XI moving forward.
