Derby County Players Involved in Crashing 9

On the evening of Tuesday, September 24, 2019, Derby County players Richard Keogh, Mason Bennett, and Tom Lawrence were involved in a car crash that resulted in Keogh suffering a knee injury, sidelining him for the duration of the 2019/20 season.

Keogh, the club’s captain, was a passenger in the back seat of Lawrence’s Range Rover Sport when it smashed into a lamppost shortly before midnight.

Reports revealed that Lawrence had been racing Bennett prior to the crash.

Both were arrested and charged with drink-driving.

Keogh, who does not drive, was apparently not wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident.

In the aftermath, Derby County expressed their displeasure, notably over the injuries to their captain, and made a statement condemning the acts of those involved.

The club highlighted that while most players had left responsibly following a designated team-building dinner, a small group, including Keogh, kept drinking.

The statement underscored the club’s stringent position on drinking and indicated that an internal investigation was ongoing.

Derby County stated that the players would face disciplinary punishment and would be involved in community work as part of their rehabilitation.
