After a terrible week, Newcastle has more bad news to share. – Over to you, lads!

Newcastle United has had a difficult week; on and off the field, everything that could have gone wrong has appeared to go wrong.

With tonight’s victory over West Ham and Sunday’s Carabao Cup Final, there are two chances to climb back up to sixth place in the new week.

Here is a recap of the Premier League results from the weekend, with an updated league standings and the few that went our way, before we begin the first of two journeys to London tonight.

Results in the Premier League are far from perfect!

After injuries to Lewis Hall and Sven Botman, Anthony Gordon’s three-game suspension and an FA Cup exit in added time the previous Sunday, it is no surprise to see results also went against us over the weekend!

The early kick-off on Saturday saw Nottingham Forest beat Man City 1-0, meaning the Reds are now up to 51pts and seven clear of Newcastle United.

Then came the 3pm kick-offs later that day, where Brighton (46pts) moved two above us thanks to a stoppage time win over Fulham, while Aston Villa (45pts) became the latest side to leapfrog us following a 1-0 win away to Brentford.

That put us in eighth place on Saturday night, but we dropped another spot on Sunday when Bournemouth (44 points), who should have won at 2-0, only managed a point in a 2-2 draw against Tottenham, bringing them level with us on points after playing more games.

While it was encouraging for Newcastle to see the Cherries lose two points late in the game, Chelsea (49 points) defeated Leicester 1-0 in another game yesterday at 2pm, moving them up five spots as we finished the weekend in ninth place.

The good news is that a victory tonight puts us back in sixth place, just one point behind Man City, two behind Chelsea, and four behind Forest. It’s also important to remember that we currently have two games left against Villa.

The goal is to give the club a much-needed boost of confidence and energy before Sunday’s final, in addition to improving our league situation, which suddenly appears a little dismal after a weekend or poor results elsewhere.

Hopefully, tonight will be the boost we need before the last stretch and Sunday’s trip to Wembley, following a brutal week filled with bad news and a weekend of results that saw us drop to ninth place.

Go, boys!
