Daniel Farke has hit out at the Championship after Leeds United fell to a 1-0 defeat against Portsmouth on Sunday.
Farke’s side made the trip to Fratton Park on 9 March and saw their unbeaten run come to an end, as Colby Bishop scored the only goal of the game in the second half.
This leaves Leeds at the top of the Championship, but level on points with Sheffield United, and only two points ahead of Burnley.
Farke hits out in crazy admission
Portsmouth may be a side in improved form of late but Leeds were certainly the favourites going into the game on the South Coast.
Pompey occupy 17th place in the Championship table and given Joel Piroe missed two big chances, Farke will definitely feel as though his side could have done better.
Nevertheless, there is no time to sit around and wonder what went wrong with Leeds back in action on Wednesday (12 March) as they welcome Millwall to Elland Road.
Farke’s side then get ready for a trip south again with a game against QPR on Saturday (15 March).
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Farke admitted the schedule is a lot to manage as he said: “It’s crazy loaded at the moment. Why ever three games within six days?”
Leeds United have to keep their focus
It is easy to empathise with Farke here given his side just played an early Sunday kick-off at the other end of the country before having a game in the week and another trip south after that.
The manager certainly wasn’t using the schedule as an excuse for the defeat, but it also cannot make things easy for his team either.
Team | Played | Won | Drawn | Lost | Goals for | Goals against | Goal difference | Points |
Leeds United | 36 | 22 | 10 | 4 | 72 | 23 | 49 | 76 |
Sheffield United | 36 | 24 | 6 | 6 | 51 | 27 | 24 | 76 |
The Whites have shown their quality throughout the season so far but it is vital that they can keep that up until the end of the campaign with this being the time to make it count.
Games against Millwall are also big occasions in Leeds so that is something that the attention will need to turn to as the West Yorkshire outfit look to keep themselves at the top of the pack.
Having a busy schedule could prove to work in Leeds’ favour as they need to be ready to put things right immediately rather than pondering over a loss.
However, supporters will be hoping the constant run of games doesn’t start to take its toll on the team in a crucial period of the season.
