Emilio Izaguirre says the winger should be concerned, but he believes he needs to do more to compete for a first-team spot.
Luis Palma has been warned he is “missing something” and should be afraid at Celtic, as another Honduran former Hoops player Emilio Izaguirre spoke of his tremendous efforts at Parkhead.
The winger has battled for game time this season and was lambasted for his performance in last weekend’s Premier Sports Cup triumph over Falkirk. Last summer, Palma joined Celtic for £3.5 million from Greek club Aris FC.
Izaguirre, who spent eight years with the Scottish Premiership champions in two different spells, has questioned Palma’s efforts, stating that only the toughest survive at Celtic. During his time in Scotland, he scaled mountains to prepare for the challenge of fighting for his left back spot.
The 38-year-old, who has 111 caps for his country, told Futbol Centro America, “If you are a 200 percent professional, you must be a thousand percent.” You must learn to eat, sleep, and train at a 2,000 percent level since you will encounter peers who are more professional than you when competing internally.
“Celtic are a demanding team, just like their fans.” If he isn’t in the starting lineup, he’s missing something; they never leave anything out. Even in training, there are cameras to monitor what everyone is doing.
“Something is going on, and he should be concerned because they don’t spare anyone there. He’s a fantastic boy and player. Hopefully, he’ll be back in the starting lineup this season.
“You can’t get sick or injured.” When I was injured, they hired two left backs. I trained and climbed a mountain to put myself to the test; it’s all mental. I returned and took over the post. That’s the mindset that every athlete should have: you have to improve through hard work.”
