Former Wolves transfer target now showing Gary O’Neil exactly what he’s missing with hot start to 24/25.
Wolves brought in several new players in the summer – but Che Adams was one target the club did not land.
Wolves made six new signings plus Bastien Meupiyou, who will hopefully become a first-team option later in the season. Tommy Doyle’s loan move from Manchester City was also turned permanent.
Jorgen Strand Larsen was brought in as the new striker for Wolves, joining on loan from Celtic Vigo initially. That move will soon turn permanent automatically.
After Strand Larsen had signed, there were still suggestions that Wolves could bring in another centre-forward, with Sasa Kalajdzic set to be out until later this year.
There were again links to Che Adams, a player Wolves had a long-standing interest in.
The club tried to sign him in the summer of 2023 and reportedly bid as much as £18 million.
Wolves were apparently interested again in the window just gone, with the player becoming a free-agent.
But he joined Torino in the end – and he has made a superb start.
Che Adams is showing Wolves what they’ve missed out on
Adams was reportedly close to joining Wolves in the summer of 2024, but Southampton blocked the deal at the last minute.
Wolves continued to be interested in the talent, and in January 2024, new connections were made.
After more conjecture in the summer, Adams officially signed a new team. Torino signed the 28-year-old; therefore, the Wolves were not included in the deal.
In Serie A, Adams has really taken off, which may have been expected.
After two Serie A games in the past, the striker has now scored four goals in his eight appearances for his current squad.
In addition, he has provided two assists, for a total of six interactions.
His efforts have enabled Torino to have a fantastic league debut. They have only lost one of their first six games, which puts them in fifth place right now.
Speaking recently about his transfer to Torino, Adams said that joining the team after leaving Southampton was “an easy choice” (via Football Italia).
Adams could have been useful for Wolves
It’s unfortunate that Adams ultimately seemed to feel that joining Wolves was not the right decision for him.
Because he was a free agent and would have come with low risk, he could have been a terrific addition for Gary O’Neil.
Clearly, Wolves still have a lot of excellent choices.
The likes of Matheus Cunha, Goncalo Guedes, and Hwang Hee-chan can all play through the center, while Strand Larsen appears to have a lot of potential.
Adams might have been helpful. However, clearly not as helpful as a different center back would have been.
