Carlos Corberan axes ‘uninspiring’ signing as bold attacking switch made – West Brom predicted XI vs Preston

Carlos Corberan could make a change or two as West Bromwich Albion take on Preston North End.

West Brom are unbeaten in their last nine games, but with five 0-0 draws and only one win in their previous eleven, they are in an odd position.

The Baggies have proven to be difficult to beat in games, and their 11 goals surrendered are only bettered by two Championship sides, but Carlos Corberan’s side lacks creativity. Albion must return to winning ways as soon as possible, as they are now outside the play-off spots on goal difference.

Josh Maja has impressed with 10 goals in 17 league games, but his teammates have not contributed enough, with Albion scoring only eight times. Granted, it’s been a difficult schedule recently, but the Baggies’ team should be strong enough to beat almost anyone in the league.

Alex Palmer has further proved himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the Championship.

Corberan may be tempted to change things up to improve West Brom’s fortunes, possibly by dropping the out-of-form Mikey Johnston, but the Spaniard prefers to stick to his guns. With that in mind, here are the 11 players we believe will be chosen against Preston at Deepdale on Saturday.

GK – Alex Palmer: The goalkeeper has started the new season strong, continuing where he left off last season. Palmer has kept nine clean sheets in 17 league outings in 2024/25.
Darnell Furlong, a running back who has returned from suspension, is one of the first names on the team sheet. Sunderland away was his first missed game under Corberan.
CB – Kyle Bartley: The seasoned defender returned to the starting lineup last time out and performed admirably. Corberan will be hopeful he can play the entire 90 minutes.
CB, Torbjorn Heggem: Heggem, who can play left-back or centre-back, has fitted in well with the Albion squad. Corberan will be delighted to welcome the Norwegian.

LB – Callum Styles: The Hungary international has been a decent performer in recent games and appears to be Corberan’s favorite option over Gianluca Frabotta.

CM: Jayson Molumby. Molumby, who has returned to the starting lineup after being benched by Uros Racic on many occasions, must sustain solid form to protect his spot.

CM – Alex Mowatt: Corberan’s favored pick in the number eight position, Mowatt hasn’t wowed the world recently, but he remains one of Albion’s finest alternatives.

RW – Tom Fellows: The England Under-21 international is unquestionably one of the Baggies’ most dangerous players. He merely needs to start whenever he feels ready.

LW – Grady Diangana: If available, Diangana might take over as Johnston struggles. Jed Wallace, John Swift, and Lewis Dobbin have all been poor.

CAM – Karlan Grant: Grant, who is frequently one of West Brom’s top performances and hardest workers, has benefited from a more central role in recent games.

ST – Josh Maja: West Brom’s leading scorer with 10 goals this season, Maja has stepped up for the team. He merely needs his attacking counterparts to contribute more goals.
