Manchester United and Manchester City will be active in the market to make new signings in the January transfer window.
Both Premier League giants could compete to recruit former Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz, who is trying to make an impact at Juventus after joining in the summer.
The Brazilian midfielder was sold by Unai Emery’s Aston Villa during the summer transfer window, but his move to the Italian giants did not work out.
Luiz has only started two games for the Old Lady, and his time in Italy has been significantly hampered by injuries.
The Aston Villa fan favourite has been sidelined recently due to a hamstring injury.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli recently visited England and offered the midfielder to both Manchester United and Manchester City.
Man United have decided to provide new signings to manager Ruben Amorim in order to build a squad suited to his playing style, whereas Manchester City, who are currently struggling and on a six-game winless streak, are expected to enter the market to sign a midfielder to fill the void in their squad left by midfielder Rodri’s injury.
Luiz, who had a success at Aston Villa, is likely to have another chance to shine in the Premier League.
He scored nine goals and assisted five times in 35 Premier League games last season.
Man United and Man City involved in Douglas Luiz race
The midfielder was one of Aston Villa’s top performers last season, helping the club qualify for the Champions League. However, they had to sell him in order to meet the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.
It remains to be seen whether he will be interested in the prospect to return to England.
Both Manchester United and Manchester City might present the midfielder with a great opportunity to reignite his career, which has stalled in Italy.
Amorim wants a new defender at Manchester United as well, and he is considering a move for Benfica star Tomás Araujo.
