Predicting Norwich City’s 2 next big money departures ft Kellen Fisher

Norwich City will be hoping to challenge for promotion from the Championship once again this season.

Norwich finished sixth in the table last season but they suffered heartbreak as they were beaten 4-0 by Leeds United in the play-off semi-finals in May.

David Wagner was sacked the day after the comprehensive defeat at Elland Road and replaced by Johannes Hoff Thorup, who made

the move from Danish side FC Nordsjaelland to take over at Carrow Road.

It was a busy summer for the Canaries as Thorup rebuilt his squad, with eight new players arriving, while there were also a number of

high-profile departures, including the likes of Ben Gibson, Danny Batth, Sam McCallum, Dimitris Giannoulis, Gabriel Sara, Christos

Tzolis, Abu Kamara and Adam Idah.

Although Norwich’s new team has had an uneven start to the season, there have been hopeful signs of improvement in recent weeks. It

was always probable that it would take some time for the team to gel.

Thorup had a solid reputation for himself as a young player development coach in Denmark, and so far this season, he hasn’t shied

away from giving certain Canaries academy products a shot.

Over the years, Norwich has established a reputation for turning out talented players. The last high-profile departure from the team

was Jonathan Rowe, a winger who signed a loan agreement with Marseille this summer with an option to buy in a move that could

fetch as much as £17 million.

Rowe scored a last-minute winner for Roberto De Zerbi’s side in their 3-2 win at Lyon last weekend, and as he continues to impress in

France, we looked at who could be next to leave Carrow Road for a significant transfer fee.

Kellen Fisher

It seems doubtful that defender Kellen Fisher, who joined Norwich from Bromley this summer, would make an early appearance in the

starting lineup considering that his only senior experience came in the National League with the Ravens.

But Fisher’s preseason exploits persuaded Wagner, the team’s manager at the time, to give him a shot in the Championship, and he

finished the season with two assists in 14 games as the Canaries advanced to the postseason.

Fisher was not on the team for a large portion of the second half of the previous season due to Jack Stacey’s play, but the 20-year-old

showed himself to be a trustworthy alternative when needed, and he has continued to make an impression in the first few games of

this campaign.

While Stacey is expected to continue as Thorup’s first-choice right-back while he pursues a promotion, Fisher has already turned in

some standout performances. Seen as the long-term heir to the former, he appears to have a promising future at Carrow Road.

With Max Aarons leaving Norwich for Bournemouth in a deal that could be worth up to £12 million last summer and Jamal Lewis

moving to Newcastle United for £15 million in 2020, Norwich has a history of selling full-backs for big money. Fisher could be the next

to bring in a substantial cash for the team.

Oscar Schwartau

Carrow Road Norwich City

Oscar Schwartau, an attacking midfielder, joined Norwich from Danish team Brondby this summer for a reported £2 million transfer

price. The team hopes to turn a healthy profit on that sum in the future.

In July 2022, Schwartau made his debut as a member of Brondby at the age of 16 years and 61 days. A little over a month later, he

scored the club’s youngest goal.

After completing his transfer to Carrow Road this summer, the 18-year-old scored six goals and recorded one assist in 46 games

overall for Brondby. Canaries sporting director Ben Knapper referred to him as “one of the most exciting talents in Danish football”

following his recruitment.

Thorup has shown a lot of faith in Schwartau by starting him right away, even though he will need time to adjust to the Championship

and has struggled to make an impression in his early Norwich career.

Without a doubt, Schwartau will get better in the upcoming months, and if he can play to his full ability, he might be another star who

brings in millions for the Canaries.
