Alexander Jensen witnessed Jeppe Okkels’ rise to prominence in Sweden and believes he can replicate his success in Aberdeen. The Danish winger, who is on loan with the option to buy, previously played for Jimmy Thelin at Elfsborg before moving on to Utrecht and Preston North End. Jensen came up against Okkels at Brommapojkarna in the Allsvenskan and joked that he couldn’t get close to him. Okkels has only showed flashes of that in a red shirt so far, but Jensen believes it is just a matter of time before his Pittodrie career takes off. “I played against Jeppe in Sweden when he was with Elfsborg,” the right-back revealed. “He was one of the top players in the league, he had a lot of clubs after him. My first season in Swedish football he was the top scorer at Elfsborg. When you played against them you knew he was one of the players you had to stop.

“I played directly against him once, and when he came off the bench, they were up 3 or 4 goals to nothing, so the game was over. I didn’t get close to him because we were losing by so much.” Okkel’s main issue has been regaining peak speed after nearly a year away from the game. He suffered a serious injury at Utrecht and then barely played at Preston. It took him some time to find his feet. He impressed against Hibs and Dunfermline Athletic, but was replaced at halftime in last weekend’s draw against Dundee United. The Red Army will be hoping Okkels can make an impact in the Scottish Cup match against Queen’s Park on Saturday. Jensen believes his fellow Dane is improving all the time.

“I can see him getting back to his best, we are seeing him in training every day getting stronger,” he went on. “It’s just a matter of time before he gets back to the levels he was at Elfsborg, everyone can see that coming.” Jensen agreed that having a fellow countryman to assist him settle was beneficial. He stated, “It’s been great having him here as well because having someone from Denmark at your side is always nice. “We’ve been helping each other settle in because there are so many things to consider when moving to another nation. We have been receiving my girlfriend’s visa, she is a nurse so needs to get one so she can work when she is here.

“She has to get a licence for being a nurse in the UK and when she gets a job they can help her with the visa. There are other ways of doing it but hopefully we will be able to do it this way.”

Alexander Jensen celebrates scoring to make it 2-0 with Pape Habib Gueye and Jack MacKenzie

Jensen has been the highlight of Aberdeen’s winter signings. The Brommapojkarna signing believes it is due to the way he was welcomed into the Dons dressing room. He explained, “It is a very easy group to join and to play with so many great players.” The entire team has been quite helpful to me. “We are improving day by day.” There is still much room for improvement. I sense it coming, how we want to play, and everyone is following the same pattern. It is happening both on and off the pitch.
