EXCLUSIVE; Rangers to accept Dave King as chairman in no-brainer move to secure new Ibrox investment
Derek Ferguson believes Rangers should adopt Dave King’s two-year plan and reinstate him as chairman at Ibrox.
Since John Bennett’s resignation for medical reasons, South African-based King has been critical of the current Gers board [Rangers Review, 16 September]. He has also emphasized his plans to bring in foreign investment as part of his pitch to lead the club back to success [Rangers Review, 15 September].
The board is reportedly opposed to letting him back in [Daily Record, 16 September], and interim chair John Gilligan has publicly encouraged him to tone down his criticism and “behave like a proper shareholder” [BBC Sport, 23 September].
But ex-Ibrox player Ferguson feels all concerned should put their personal concerns with King aside and focus on what is best for the team.
He exclusively informed Ibrox News that he already has a two-year plan. Many people remark, ‘Oh, but we need stability’. But, if he can come in and put the right people in the proper places inside the organization, as well as invest some money, why would you turn that down?
“I understand that he is not everyone’s cup of tea, but that’s life. That happens in sport; you don’t always agree with everyone, but you have to look at the good of the football club.
“Personally, I think it’s a no-brainer, I think you get him in.”
John Gilligan has reacted to Dave King Rangers’ comments.
Philippe Clement and his players have now begun to restore order on the pitch, with four wins in all competitions since the Celtic setback.
The club’s path remains uncertain, despite Gilligan’s confirmation that the manager is safe and would have funds to spend in January (Sky Sports Scotland, September 24).
On theory, there may be some sense in allowing King to implement the two-year plan he claims to have, but it is unlikely to happen until he stops attacking those now in authority at Ibrox.
