Slated for the “awful thing” he did during Rangers’ live victory over Hibs on Sky Sports, Vaclav Cerny

Neil McCann criticized Vaclav Cerny in real time on Sky Sports for doing a “terrible thing” as Rangers held on for a suspenseful 1-0 victory over Hibs. The pundit reacted in real time during the match on September 29 in the 48th minute as the Czech winger won possession on the right flank deep in his own half, then played a careless, weak pass towards James Tavernier that Junior Hoilett easily intercepted. Cerny’s careless play was indicative of his increasingly disappointing form, despite the Light Blues overall improving.

The 26-year-old was one of the standout players of the first few weeks of the season. Clement limited his playing time, and his superb winning goal in the 2-1 victory over Motherwell at Hampden Park on August 10 seemed to portend good things to come.

However, following the international break (15 September), he was unable to play in the 1-0 victory over Dundee. This week, he had a terrible night in the Europa League at Malmo, capping off an uncertain performance with a terrible miss in the first half.

Rangers Robin Propper

Few would claim that Ross McCausland is a better player overall but the Northern-Irishman came on to score a beautiful goal in Sweden and again seemed the more assured against Hibs. Cerny should step up now that Rabbi Matondo is sidelined due to an injury that is expected to take time to heal [Football Scotland, September 5]. However, he appears to have made a step back and is less assured than when he first arrived. In other Rangers news, Clement’s transfer window update has surfaced ahead of January and is confirmed.
