Over the course of the last fifteen or so years, Norwich City has had considerable success. The Canaries have risen from League One to

the Premier League for several seasons, and several of their players have gone on to become modern-day icons at Carrow Road.

Striker Teemu Pukki, who joined the Canaries on a free transfer in 2018, wanted to make up for his unsuccessful time playing in the

Scottish Premiership with Celtic during his previous stint in British football. He was one player that solidified his reputation as a modern-day icon at the Canaries.

Nevertheless, Pukki’s contract with Danish club Brondby expired, and Daniel Farke brought the striker to Carrow Road because he saw something in him. Nobody would have predicted Pukki to be as excellent as he was for the Canaries.

After five years in Norwich, Pukki left last summer, and it’s safe to say that the people of Norfolk will miss him terribly.

Little was expected of Norwich ahead of the 2018–19 season, which marked Farke’s second season in command, given the Canaries

had placed eighth and then fourteenth in the Championship following their relegation from the Premier League in 2016.

A free agent and someone who had struggled in Scotland, Pukki’s signing didn’t seem like a big deal either, but it didn’t take him long

to win over the Carrow Road supporters.

Both Pukki and Norwich had incredible seasons in 2018–19. The Finnish striker scored 29 goals in the league and took home the

Championship Golden Boot, while Norwich dominated the division to win the championship., Championship Player of the Season,

PFA Fans’ Player of the Year and being named in both the EFL and PFA Team of the Year.

In addition to helping his team win the championship, Pukki’s individual Championship performance was undoubtedly one of the best

in history. He carried over this success into the Premier championship.

He was named Premier League Player of the Month for August 2019 after scoring six goals in his first five games, although he

struggled a bit after that, managing just five more goals as the Canaries were demoted.

11 goals was still a respectable result for a team that had been demoted, and the next season he scored a lot more goals in the

Championship.

In the 2020–21 season, Pukki added another 26 goals in the league to help Norwich win the Championship once more. He was also

named in both.

Norwich were relegated from the Premier League at the first attempt yet again, but it was another impressive season from Pukki as he

matched his tally from the 2019/20 season with 11 league goals, and he showed no signs of letting up, despite being in his thirties.

His final season saw his worst return in terms of goals, with just ten in the Championship, but it was still a decent campaign as he

announced he would depart at the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

After five years at Carrow Road, Pukki departed in the summer of 2023 on a free transfer with 88 goals to his name.

This makes him the club’s fourth-highest goalscorer in history, not bad for a free transfer…

Teemu Pukki is still scoring goals in the MLS

Pukki moved across the Atlantic to join Minnesota United of Major League Soccer after leaving Norwich last summer, and at the age of

34, he is still scoring goals.

In 35 MLS games, he has scored 14 goals. In addition, he continues to score for Finland, having scored in their 4-1 play-off loss to

Wales in March and then added two more goals in a friendly against Portugal in June.

Even while he hasn’t been as productive at Minnesota United as he was with Norwich, especially in his first few years at Carrow Road,

he has nevertheless demonstrated that he is a strong goal scorer and has been a valuable addition to the MLS.

Despite turning 35 this season, Pukki hasn’t shown any symptoms of slowing down—and for good reason, given his respectable goal

scoring record on the other side of the ocean.

Although Pukki has played for eight senior clubs, the Canaries’ supporters will always remember him most affectionately for his move

to Carrow Road in 2018. Minnesota United is the eighth senior club Pukki has played for.
